Common x Gap

common gap
If you have been watching TV at all for the last couple of days, it is no doubt that you've probably seen the Gap commercial featuring Common. I'm confused, when did it become ok to become a corporate shill, especially in hip hop? On the other hand, I can't get mad at him for increasing his exposure and reaching a wider audience. When you hear him rapping about the Gap though, it kinda puts a bad taste in your mouth. I really don't know what to think about it... all the best to Common anyway.

Common is a jackass. The diseased Gap has more sweatshops than any other company in existence.

Wow... selling out, you say? Hip hop to remain relevant needs more than wanna be "thugs" rapping about black women being their sexual objects.

I think it has a mellow, nice style...

The issue isn't about whether or not Common has a good style (which he does happen to have). The issue is about the fact that a person who supposedly promote peace can support a company like GAP. Hip-hop should do away with misogyny and promoting injustice; it doesn't have to except the latter to rid itself of the former.
